Head of Application Development - CDP London

Our small, dedicated IT team is responsible for the development and support of the technology platform as well as general office systems. We aim to deliver an efficient, innovative and comprehensive service to our colleagues, members, disclosing companies and the wider community

Our technology platform is the heart of our operation, and is going through a period of major change. We have recently insourced our Microsoft Dynamics CRM and are rebuilding our website in Ruby on Rails. Over the next two years we will extend the website to better engage with investors, disclosing companies and the wider community, and replace our core data collection systems, while keeping our live operation working well and implementing the tactical changes that any organisation needs.

You will bring a depth of experience across the software development lifecycle, from understanding requirements to designing solutions, setting standards, and managing a team to deliver robust software which meets business needs.

We offer a relaxed but busy working environment in Central London. We are open to different patterns of working, including regular days working away from the office and you’ll start with 24 days leave a year. We have a non-contributory pension scheme which you may join after three months, and you will also be eligible for childcare vouchers, a loan to buy a bicycle and safe undercover cycle parking, and a travel card loan. Responsibilities

  • Ensure that CDP applications are developed to be robust, perform well and meet the needs of CDP and its external stakeholders.
  • As line manager of the team, which includes developers and testers with a range of different technology skills, ensure that all team members are able to give of their best, and build their skills.
  • Work with key stakeholders to define user stories and other requirements, prioritise and set a challenging but realistic plan of work to deliver
  • Work with the Global IT Operations Manager to agree prioritisation of fixes to incidents, balancing the need to deliver new work with the need to keep existing systems running well.
  • As ScrumMaster, work with the team to ensure that sprints are delivered in full
  • Improve development team processes to ensure that they are in line with current industry best practice

Skills and experience:

Required

  • Extensive experience managing mixed-technology development teams using Agile methodologies
  • Excellent planning and estimating skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Good experience of software development in at least one of our two core technology stacks - c# / .net / MVC or Ruby on Rails - and a willingness to become familiar with the other
  • General business systems analysis skills
  • General architecture skills, able to contribute to the overall design of the CDP applications

  • Good degree in computer science or similar discipline

CDP Supply Chain Account Manager - CDP London

You will be joining the highly motivated, successful and ambitious supply chain team at CDP. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Recruitment of members for CDP’s supply chain program and general business development for the program in the UK.
  • Managing relationships with existing members and supporting them to meet relevant goals and ambitions.
  • Establishing, maintaining and leveraging relationships with relevant sustainability and procurement managers as well as trade associations, industry working groups and other organizations working in the sustainable supply chain and procurement field
  • Supporting member companies in executing and expanding supplier disclosure and incorporating analysis tools and CDP scores into their procurement decisions
  • Presenting at conferences and other events to  raise awareness and develop new leads for future members of the program
  • Creatively developing and refining presentations, brochures and marketing material as well as the inherent program offering together with the Supply Chain team.
  • Other work supporting the program’s operations and international presence, as required.

The successful candidate will have:

Required

  • Proven track record in business development or sales with persistence, endurance and creativity in developing a new business stream
  • Good business communications experience and a very strong command of business language
  • Proven strong networking, negotiation and communication skills. Ideally with existing contacts in networks across businesses in the UK, including relevant contacts within trade associations and industry working groups
  • Proven skills in public speaking and collaboration with corporations in industry working groups
  • An entrepreneurial and enthusiastic spirit with the ability to self manage, also having experience of working with and convincing  senior contacts
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing work priorities.

Desirable

The successful candidate will work 5 days per week and must be able to work legally in the UK. The role is located at our offices in London. Communications Manager - CDP North America

CDP North America, the second largest office in CDP’s global organization, has grown dramatically over the past three years. We are expanding our thought leadership work, helping put vital climate change and natural resource data and insights at the heart of financial decision-making. To help maximize the impact and reach of our work, CDP is seeking a Communications Manager to help showcase our strong presence in North America.

Primary responsibilities:

Communications strategy

  • Supporting and continually improving CDP North America’s media and communications strategy by working with current communications lead and Development Director;
  • Liaising closely with program and operational staff (e.g. insights, corporate disclosure, supply chain, cities, investor initiatives, etc). to ensure timely coordination on media messaging and internal and external outreach planning;
  • Coordinating and improving links with CDP’s Global communications team, particularly on CDP’s award winning investor research output, to deliver strong US media coverage of CDP’s global work; and
  • Coordinating and streamlining CDP's program-related outreach to our corporate, investor and city stakeholders.

Media outreach

  • Building a stable of new media contacts in New York City and arranging media events or individual meetings for CDP North America’s President
  • Conducting proactive media outreach and cultivating a network of journalists and editors in major media outlets (broadcast, print, web and social media) to ensure widespread coverage of CDP programs, reports, events, public announcements, and other projects;
  • Identifying and acting upon media opportunities to maximize coverage of CDP’s work with investors; and
  • Managing incoming media inquiries and coordinating with internal CDP personnel to provide appropriate follow up and response.

Content development

  • Drafting press releases, media advisories, Q&A, talking points, statements, as well as other communications documents;
  • Creating and writing original content for marketing materials, publications, and newsletters working in tandem with CDP team leads
  • Managing and driving CDP North America’s social media and online presence, including writing blogs and tweeting to engage target audiences

Required qualifications:

  • A minimum of a 4 year college degree (preferably a BA in communications or related field) required, Masters a plus;
  • Four to seven years of experience in communications/ public relations;

Preferred qualifications:

  • Existing relationships with key media outlets and strong familiarity with sustainability and business media preferred;
  • Proficiency in effectively using social media to build visibility and promote engagement;
  • Familiarity with the Cision integrated PR software and media contact database;
  • Knowledge of corporate social responsibility, sustainability, ESG, and financial markets a plus; and
  • Familiarity with InDesign or Publisher a plus.

Skill requirements:

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to research, assimilate and analyze information, compose documents, and present data in a clear and concise manner to appropriate personnel, including top management, program staff and external stakeholders;

The role is also expected to secure new business in the future.

Emissions Data Analyst – CDP London

CDP is seeking a highly motivated individual with experience and interest in energy, data analysis, corporate climate change accounting and modeling to join CDP’s Data Team. The position holder will support in the cleaning and modeling of corporate GHG emissions and other related data points, working to enhance CDP’s ‘clean & complete climate change dataset’ offering for investors, policy-makers and other stakeholders to make more informed decisions. Responsibilities
  • Work with the technical manager and other data analysts to implement procedures for ensuring CDP data integrity and monitoring for constant improvement;
  • Undertake the systematic identification and correction of energy-related data quality issues and apply data standardization techniques to harmonize key data point responses;
  • Develop and implement methods for consuming external data and integrating them into CDP’s database, maintaining transparency through these  processes;
  • Maintain and improve upon algorithms and source models to estimate corporate GHG emissions and expand upon these to incorporate other relevant data;
  • Extract, transform and load data from and into CDP’s data warehouse;
  • Facilitate the internal and external accessibility, usability and analysis of CDP’s data;
  • Determine optimal data delivery methods and formats and support in the operationalization of identified requirements;

  • Familiarity with corporate GHG inventories with some previous experience in doing them is an advantage.

The successful candidate will report to the Technical Manager (Data) and will work closely with several other internal teams in CDP as well as external stakeholders. The role is for 5 days per week, based at CDP’s office in London. The position is for a fixed-term of one year with the potential to extend thereafter.

Student Internship - CDP Southern Europe (based in Berlin)

CDP Europe, the world’s leading climate change charity, offers an internship on a voluntary basis for a period of 3 months to support our Southern Europe activities.

About the role: we are looking for a highly motivated individual, fluent in Spanish and English, with a strong background on sustainability and/or climate change; excellent communication skills and proven experience in organizing high-level events. This role is suitable for someone with knowledge or interest in climate change and business, and it will provide an opportunity to learn about corporate climate change reporting and to experience working in an innovative business-focused NGO.

Internship - CDP Europe

CDP Europe is registered in Berlin. The organisation with charitable status works in close association with other members of the CDP group throughout the world and is responsible for or all CDP operations on mainland Europe. We are currently a team of 25 colleagues.

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct support of the France & Benelux project officer and the European water account manager
  • Support the team on various projects including communication with companies
  • Participate in organization of CDP Events, such as“CDP spring workshops” or “CDP report launches”
  • Data maintenance
  • Invitation management

The successful candidate will have:

  • Enrolled student in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (esp. Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Research analyst, Investor Research - CDP London

CDP is seeking a highly motivated research analyst to join its investor research team. The successful candidate will ideally have 2-3 years’ experience in an analytical role and a business or financial background/qualification with a passion for climate issues.

CDP runs an annual disclosure process on behalf of 822 institutional investors with combined assets in excess of $95 trillion. Disclosing companies provide  quantitative and qualitative information about their greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency programs, water management, exposure to deforestation and strategic business approach to environmental risk.

The investor research team has initiated a quarterly research series identifying climate (carbon and water) metrics in a number of high-emitting sectors, which in aggregate could have a material impact on company earnings. The research aims to improve investor understanding and knowledge of CDP data and inform  investor engagement with companies on climate-related issues.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Exceptional analytical skills;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Work with large data sets in a clean, methodical manner, minimising risk of error;
  • Ability to assess credibility/usefulness of different data sources;
  • Exceptional written skills;
  • Ability to communicate complex analysis and arguments in a concise, easy to follow manner;
  • Ability to draw key messages/sales hook out of complex research;
  • Excellent verbal communication; and
  • Ability to communicate research findings to both internal and external parties, including investors.

  • Technologically competent: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ideally also Bloomberg (although training can be arranged);

Supply Chain Internship - CDP North America

CDP is seeking an intern to support CDP’s Supply Chain program. The Supply Chain program catalyzes disclosure and action on climate change and water issues in procurement for 89 of the world’s largest purchasing organizations, including Fortune 500 companies and the US Government.

The successful candidate will be expected to work 20-25 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months (exact schedule is flexible). This is a paid internship ($9/hr) based out of CDP’s New York office.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Generate analytical reports from CDP’s database of corporate environmental data for Supply Chain program members and partner organizations
  • Database management for the Supply Chain program, which is the central communication platform between CDP, Members and suppliers
  • Opportunities to assist on projects for the global Supply Chain team, as they arise
  • Support registration and logistics for CDP Supply Chain events

The successful candidate will receive:

  • An insight into company CDP disclosures, current trends and best practice in climate change mitigation
  • Exposure to supplier engagement strategies of large purchasing organizations on the subject of climate change
  • Experience working in a fast-paced office environment and as part of an international team

The ideal candidate:

  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Will be pursuing or will have recently completed a related degree
  • Will have previous work or internship experience that demonstrates strong communication (written and verbal) and analytical skills
  • Will have knowledge of current climate change issues and an interest in corporate sustainability and/or supply chain management
  • Will have the ability to take ownership of projects and work independently
  • Familiarity with CRM is a plus
