The WWF is one of the largest global conservation organisations. Its climate change programme operates in over 30 countries and focuses in its work on the most carbon intensive industry, the power sector. WWF aims at clarifying risks and threats resulting from the use of fossil fuels and to develop innovative and sustainable longterm solutions. Second to these emitting sectors comes the financial industry in its various roles as the provider of finance and stakeholder power.
The financial services industry is increasingly affected by climate change, directly but even more importantly indirectly. Business models will face requirements for transformational changes driven by climate change and resulting legislations amongst other implications. WWF was involved with financial services companies in developing their climate change strategies, to fundamentally reflect these challenges. WWF has been supporting the Carbon Disclosure Project over many years in various countries and is amongst other fields of support a partner to the German CDP report 2007-9, as meaningful data on companies climate change exposure is the fundamental first step in assessing these implications and building up meaningful strategies.
